By late June, the public-examination season is drawing to a close. GCSE students will generally have completed their exams, while a small number of Year 13 students may still be sitting their final A Level papers during the opening days of this cycle.

For Year 10 and Year 12 students, however, the academic year is often still busy. Internal examinations, end-of-year assessments, essays, coursework and school projects may continue before the summer break.

Course Cycle 11 focuses on finishing the year well rather than simply adding more work. Lessons can be used to review assessment feedback, address weaknesses that have become clear during the year, complete outstanding work and consolidate the reading, writing and analytical skills students will need next year.

For students moving into Year 11 or Year 13, this is also a useful point to look ahead. Focused preparation before the summer can clarify priorities for the examination year ahead, while students who have already made secure progress may choose a lighter workload as the school year comes to an end.
